Fira de Barcelona ends year with record revenue: €165m
The organisation improves 9.7% on last year’s results, thanks to the positive development of its own shows
2016 will be the best year in terms of income for Fira de Barcelona, the Barcelona Trade Fair. The organisation will end the year with a record revenue of 165 million euros, the best results in its history, thanks to the positive development of its own shows, the importance of external events and its international activity.
That figure of 165 million euros is 16.4% higher than their original estimate, and a 9.7% increase on their 2015 income, according to the details provided on Friday by the organisation during their annual report. In comparison with 2014, which had a more similar show calendar, it represents an 8.2% increase in income.
Fira de Barcelona’s president, Josep Lluís Bonet, attributed these results to the economic recovery, as well as the organisation’s internationalisation. "We’re playing in the Champions League", said Bonet. On the other hand, the mayor of Barcelona and president of the trade fair’s General Council, Ada Colau, expressed her satisfaction with the results obtained by the institution which, she noted, is the “city’s most important economic platform”.
During 2016, the fair has welcomed to its Montjuïc and Gran Via venues a total of 65 shows and congresses. At the same time, it has organised 9 shows abroad and 50 corporate, commercial and sporting events, for a total of 120 events.
