Catalan companies receive more than half of the PERTE Chip funds.
The Ministry of Industry has awarded 27.65 million euros to Catalan projects in the microelectronics industry.
BarcelonaCatalan companies have secured €27.65 million of the €53.2 million in funding from the PERTE Xip call for proposals, which finances semiconductor projects, according to calculations made by ACCIÓ, the competitiveness agency of the Department of Business and Employment. This represents 52% of the subsidies allocated by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism for the microelectronics industry in Spain.
The call has resulted in 37 projects being approved, of which 17 are in Catalonia and are led by leading companies in the sector, such as Axiomatic AI, Transformaciones Metalúrgicas, and Lace Compute. The Minister of Business and Employment, Miquel Sàmper, noted that Catalonia has become a "key player" in the semiconductor industry in Spain and has considered this area an "absolute priority" for the Government. ACCIÓ has indicated that 87% of the Catalan companies awarded funds from PERTE Chip have had its support in accessing this and other financing funds. The Next Generation EU Office and the public company of the Generalitat (Catalan Government) Avançsa have also collaborated on some of the projects.
In 2024, the Catalan Semiconductor and Chip Alliance was created, which enables public-private collaboration and fosters opportunities for talent and collaboration on international projects. Catalonia currently leads the vice-presidency of the European Semiconductor Regions Alliance (ESRA) and will assume its presidency in 2026, following an event that will take place in Barcelona on November 6 and 7 of this year.
