The final scene ofThe accountant, thriller An action film with a baffling premise (to put it mildly) that was released in 2016 to mediocre reviews and decent box office success, it offered a glimpse into the direction its sequel would take. In that film's finale, Christian Wolff, the autistic accountant/math genius/money laundering expert/military-trained assassin who played Ben Affleck with the sad energy of a wet dishcloth, he met his brother Braxton, played by a bragging, charismatic and talkative Jon Bernthal.
Gavin O'Connor, a filmmaker in a slump who already directed Affleck to the effective –albeit very conventional– The way back and that to the electrifying Warrior had already explored sibling rivalry, and Bill Dubuque, screenwriter and creator of the series Ozark –with obvious thematic similarities with the saga The accountant–, they are betting on the well-known formula of the collision between opposite poles to turn this sequel into a buddy movie for occasionally enjoying the typical elements of an action movie. The scenes featuring the unexpected comedy duo of Affleck and Bernthal almost make us forget what was already the first film's greatest weakness: the obsession with trying to make too many numbers work at once. The Accountant 2 Once again, it unfolds a tangled web of characters and plots that would require a longer format (a series, perhaps?) to be resolved satisfactorily.
