Anier: "I approach betrayal from different perspectives."
The Barcelona rapper releases the album 'Duskdown' after two years of silence due to issues with the music industry.
BarcelonaAnier (queen, spelled backwards) is the stage name of Melina Altés (Barcelona, 1998). At just 17 years old, she rose to fame singing rap and hip hop. She posted her first track on YouTube in 2015, and by 2017 she was already well-known in the hip-hop community with songs like Where, Fire to truce either Carrion, with several million views.
She hasn't released any music for over two years. "In fact, it's been the time in my career when I've worked the hardest; I mean, I haven't stopped making music, but I've taken it much more internally, at home. I've done a lot of work alone, without studios or producers," explains the singer. She shared the reason for her silence on Instagram on December 4, 2024: "This year it was hard for me to appear in yours." wrapped from Spotify. Do you know why? Because two scoundrels with names and surnames, with very little respect and a lot of bad faith, have dedicated themselves to trying to get everything I have, and one of the brilliant ideas they came up with was to eliminate a large part of my catalog on the platforms." Now, Altés explains: "I started in the music industry when I was very good."
He has surprised fans by releasing an entire album without warning, suddenly and without a single preview, Duskdown. "The album has a very clear conclusion, but it starts by saying that because of everything the industry has made me suffer, I'm afraid I'll end up losing the love I have for music. It's the way I get rid of all these things that can hurt me and I end up saying that I'm going to pay whatever price it takes because I want to do this and I want to do what I do."
However, these two years in which he hasn't released new content, he has been to different festivals and his fans have been able to hear him. "I decided to continue on stage so that people would continue to see me. I went through a very hard time where I was trying to solve all these problems, trying to work to release new music and going on stage, while pretending that nothing was happening. You can't explain the problems to the public or this other part that is behind because they don't understand it, they don't know it, it doesn't exist."
So, Duskdown It's a way of breaking a two-year silence. "On the one hand, this period has made me keep my head down; I don't want to sink into victimhood, but it's hurt me. During this time, I've suffered the situation in silence. I didn't understand why this hurt me, why those people acted like this, why I had to be suffering, why I found myself at this point, but at the same time I found myself at this point, but at the same time. Of saying: 'Well, yes, I'm at the bottom of everything, but now I'll raise my head higher than ever.'
The album comes not only as a surprise, but also explores new styles, both musical and aesthetic. "I wanted to shake off all those bad feelings that had been rooted in my process until now, and move towards something else. The main change is in the sound: the music, the lyrics, and my voice are different from what I did before. And I wanted to accompany it with a change of aesthetic. I've tried to take care of the details of every aspect. "It started out as a very dark project because I came from a very intimate, very vulnerable place, from a part of me that was very sad and afraid. The first songs reflect that. That's why I wanted to play with the colors of darkness and sunset in the music videos and the clothing. And little by little we realized that the creative process of the album is about the creative process of the album itself. Little by little it ended up taking shape.
Anier has managed to take advantage of his bad experience with the industry, and he shows it with the album. "I wanted to do something transgressive, to break away from industry standards a little. I don't want to do everything the way they say to achieve success, and I want to do it the way I want," he says.
With the new album, it seems like a new phase has arrived. "Something very important has changed. Beyond the experience, the reconnection I've made with music on a technical and musical level has changed. Everything I've discovered has given me a very clear vision of where I see myself in a few years. Now I'm very clear about where I want to be, the type of artist I want to be. I want to be a musician, a musician, a rap musician, a much more complete artist. I'm very clear that I want to become a very big artist, to reach different places, to open up to new circles, new audiences, and to reach a lot more people than I've been able to reach up until now."
