In 2005, a group of professionals from the socio-educational field created ACTUA, a non-profit social initiative cooperative that develops and manages projects that promote inclusion, coexistence, and the prevention of situations of vulnerability, especially among children and young people. The cooperative promotes initiatives rooted in the region, based on collaboration, self-management, and commitment to people. As the president of the governing board, Berta Pinyol, states, "We are committed to generating real opportunities to transform society through educational action and the empowerment of individuals, teams, and projects, based on proximity, inclusion, and a community perspective."
A question of presence
ACTUA, which is currently present in five regions, including Garraf, Penedès, Tarragona, Ponent-Pirineus, and Eix Montserrat, maintains that being a service provider for people is not just a matter of management, but also of presence. "We are where things happen to offer real, close, and accessible support," emphasizes Pinyol. This premise, in practice, translates into services ranging from job placement projects to self-sufficiency apartments, as well as psychosocial support, community intervention projects, a residential program—seven residential centers and seven self-sufficiency apartments—and a program that manages socio-educational intervention services, inter-cooperation, counseling, and training. ACTUA, in short, accompanies, adapts, and empowers the people it supports, constantly seeking new opportunities to build a more just and inclusive future. "We do all of this because we believe in people and in the power of cooperation to make change a reality," concludes Pinyol.
