These are the series nominated for the 2025 Emmy Awards.
'The Pitt,' 'Severance,' and 'The Last of Us,' nominated for best drama
BarcelonaThe 77th Emmy Awards, the awards that recognize the best series of the season, already have nominees. Among the selections from the American Academy of Television Arts and Sciences are The White Lotus, The Pitt, Severance and The Last of UsThe mystery of which series will be the best drama and best comedy of the year will be resolved on September 14, when the awards ceremony will be held at a gala hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze in Los Angeles. The ensemble cast of The White Lotus has made it dominate in the supporting actress and actor categories and has become the series with the most nominations this year, a total of eight.
In the 2024 edition, the best drama was Shogun, which is not competing this year because it hasn't released its second season yet. However, in the comedy category, there could be a repeat because Hacks, which won last year, is nominated again. In 2024, the comedy starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder swept the board and blew the floor with The bear, until then considered the favorite in the comedy categories and which this year also aspires to take home the award.
In both the drama and comedy categories, there are fictions that are debuting as Emmy nominees. This is the case of The Pitt, one of the strongest contenders in the drama categories. Aside from aspiring to the top award in its category, it could also see recognition for the work of its lead actor, Noah Wyle, who plays Dr. Robby. Sterling K. Brown surprised everyone with a nomination in the best drama actor category. ParadiseThe last season ofAndor, very well received by critics, is one of the five nominees for best drama, but its star, Diego Luna, has not managed to get into the running for best dramatic actor.
As for comedies, one of the series that had everything going for it to get nominated was The Studio, one of the most talked-about fictions of the year. The AppleTV+ production could take home the award for best comedy, best comic actor for Seth Rogen (who is also co-creator of the fiction), best supporting actress for Catherine O'Hara or Kathryn Hahn, and best supporting actor for Ike Barinholtz. Another of the series that has triumphed in the comedy categories is Nobody wants this, which follows the love story between a rabbi and an atheist. Both the series and its two leads, Adam Brody and Kristen Bell, are nominated.
The 'Adolescence' phenomenon
A production that seems guaranteed to win awards in September is the British Adolescence, one of the year's biggest television phenomena. This drama, which examines the issues of modern adolescence through a murder case, is nominated for Best Miniseries, Best Leading Actor in a Miniseries (Stephen Graham), Best Supporting Actor (Owen Cooper), and Best Supporting Actress (Erin Doherty and Christine Tremarco).
Javier Bardem's first nomination.
One of the notable nominations, which was taken for granted, is that of Javier Bardem for the miniseries Monsters, the story of Lyle and Erik Menendez. This is the first time the Spanish actor has been nominated for an Emmy, although he was also nominated for a Golden Globe for the same miniseries. One of Bardem's main rivals for the television awards will be Owen Cooper, fromAdolescence, the youngest nominee in Emmy history. At the other end of the spectrum is Harrison Ford, who has become the oldest nominee at the awards.
