Canadian billionaire Stephen Smith has bought a 27% stake in The Economist Group, which includes the weekly magazine, from the Rothschild family. The Economist, Economist Intelligence Unit, a company dedicated to macroeconomic studies; and Economist Impact, which organizes events on an international scale.
