BarcelonaCatalan is the habitual language of less than a third of the country's population. The present and future of the language, in light of these data, is the topic chosen for a new themed evening on TV3, taking advantage of the Tuesday slot dedicated to non-fiction. Under the pretext of analysing the recent survey on the social use of Catalan by Idescat, Agnès Marqués will host a two-and-a-half-hour programme that will combine information and entertainment. The presenter already took on one of these specials when the public channel celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Catalan programme. 30 minutes and now it is repeating with a program that will start this Tuesday at ten o'clock at night.

The chosen format puts the focus on the data, but along with the task of disseminating the conclusions that can be drawn from the survey, it also includes generous doses of entertainment. Thus, one of the guests will be the comedian Òscar Andreu, who in recent months has been performing his monologue Call to brightly colored birds, where she reflects in a comedic tone on her linguistic biography, having grown up in a place where Catalan was used less frequently. Also from a humorous side, the theme night will feature the participation of the Valencian comedian Maria Juan.

Some of the characters who will lend their testimony to show that Catalan can be a successful tool for professionals in many fields are the footballer Aitana Bonmatí, the singer Raimon, the actors David Selvas, Emma Vilarasau and Pere Arquillué, as well as Julien, a contestant on the third season ofEuphoria, among others. The musical part will be provided by the band Sidonie y la Fúmiga.

The idea is not to officiate a pre-burial of the language, but to take a positive look at it and, for that reason, one of the things that is promised is to propose options for improvement through experts and representatives of the economic, health, educational and social sectors. "In line with TV3's concern about the loss of the social use of Catalan, we propose a programme that wants to draw conclusions above all in order to be able to offer proposals," Agnès Marqués explains to ARA. Asked about whether the approach is optimistic or pessimistic, the presenter of the special responds: "Neither one thing nor the other. It does have the will to be constructive, to promote the social use of Catalan and to make the viewer think about what each one can do for the language, based on the awareness of all viewers, whether they are Catalan speakers."
