"Speak Catalan whoever is around": 3Cat promotes an initiative for newcomers

The Corporation launches 'Easy Catalan', a series of audiovisual pills to encourage the use of the language among new speakers

Barcelona3Cat today launched Català fàcil, a project to encourage the use of the language among new speakers, consisting of a series of audiovisual contents that will be available on the public television platform, but which will also be distributed through the social networks of 3Cat Campus, the digital training space aimed at adolescents and adults. The Corporation presented the initiative today at the Jaume Fuster library in Barcelona with the presence of Rosa Romà, president of the entity. The actor Roger Comà and the content creator Blanca Roca, both hosts of the audiovisual pieces, also attended the event.

Romà explained that with this project 3Cat wants to contribute to normalizing its social use. "There are more and more people who know the Catalan language, but, on the other hand, there are fewer people who use it regularly," explained the president of 3Cat. In this regard, she pointed out that many newcomers do learn Catalan, but they have problems expressing themselves on a daily basis. "We firmly believe in the commitment to speak Catalan regardless of the person we have around us," Romà remarked.

In this first stage, Català fàcil consists of 58 videos and 170 reels with formats designed for 3Cat, YouTube, and social networks. All these contents present everyday situations and provide practical resources to users to gain confidence in using this language. The project, which is based on the pedagogical contents of A1 and A2 Catalan, is progressively deployed in three levels: Acollida (12 episodes), Iniciació (12), and Base (33, which will be released at the end of May).

"Sometimes there is a lack of spaces where one can take steps that are useful and have a constructive element. When they proposed this to me from TV3, I clearly saw that yes, because many things resonated with me that push the possibility of Catalan being a vehicular language for everyone," explained Roger Coma about his participation in this initiative.
