'El Mundo' sinks Junts and shoots up Alianza
BarcelonaIt is not usual for a Madrid newspaper to conduct surveys on the Catalan Parliament, but this Monday The World publishes one that accentuates the trends already observed in the CEO, namely that Aliança Catalana is growing significantly at the expense of Junts. In that case, the rise of the Islamophobic Catalan party would reach 11-14 seats in the upper bracket, while the CEO limits the increase to 10-11. Where there is a greater difference is in the expectations of Carles Puigdemont's party, which would go from the current 35 seats to 24-26, that is, ten fewer. The CEO places Junts much higher, at 28-30.
The curious thing is the explanation it gives The World about the fall of Junts. The headline is crystal clear: "Support for Pedro Sánchez's government sinks Junts in Parliament and boosts the Catalan Alliance." Here The World He's playing a card that Alberto Núñez Feijóo has already used on occasion, and that is to attack the majority of the investiture through the link he currently considers the weakest, which is Junts, a party that, indeed, is in difficulty due to the pressure exerted on them by Silvia Orriols's party from the right flank. The media right, on the other hand, considers the PNV (Basque Nationalist Party) to be lost, considering it completely aligned with Sánchez's government due to its governing coalition with the PSE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) in the Basque Country.
It's clear that there may be a significant portion of the Junts electorate, precisely the most right-wing, unhappy with Sánchez's investiture. But the CEO also provides an incontrovertible fact: Sánchez is by far, with 34%, the preferred politician of Junts voters for being president of the Spanish government, and only 1% opt for Feijóo. Therefore, there are surely other factors that explain Junts' decline, and not just this one.
