Many will be familiar with the name of Borderlands by the film released last summer which didn't quite convince the public, but the truth is that this saga has been active for more than fifteen years and has attracted millions of players. In fact, Borderlands (2009) was largely the one who coined the subgenre known as looter shooter, quite widespread today, and which can be translated as a looter shooter. Its gameplay is characterized by a blend of first-person features with elements more characteristic of action role-playing games, such as procedural equipment, character attributes, and skill trees. Furthermore, the game can be enjoyed solo or in co-op, which greatly expands the gameplay options. It is also thanks to a highly stylized artistic direction and a wacky humor that the series Borderlands has sold more than 93 million units worldwide to date, according to data from parent company Take-Two Interactive.
After gaining a strong fan base thanks to the originality of the first titles, the general opinion surrounding the latest Borderlands 3 It was more divided: its good gameplay stood out but also a very weak script. Gearbox Software wants to redeem itself and convince all those fans again with the new Borderlands 4, in which they promise to have listened to their audience and corrected the main errors of the last installment. What's more, the new title is set on Kairos, the largest and most varied planet in the series, a large explorable setting full of content and without loading screens.
A new world and more mobility
One of the main changes of Borderlands 4 is the movement of the characters. With the intention of updating the series for a new generation, movements such as the double jump, the glide, the climb, and the hook are default movements of the heroes, and they help bring dynamism to the title along with the verticality of its levels. Additionally, the player can summon a Digirunner, a vehicle for longer journeys, and also has the company of a friendly drone, Echo-4, that guides and provides logistical support. All of these changes enhance exploration in the immense landscapes of Kairos and encourage the user to interact with points of interest and discover emerging events happening across the planet.
To uncover all the planet's secrets, players will be able to choose from four very distinct new protagonists, as is usual in the series. Vex, a siren with magical powers and summons; Rafa, a specialized soldier equipped with an exoskeleton; Amon, a strongman warrior who also wields melee weapons; and Harlowe, a scientist loaded with gadgets and capable of using gravity to her advantage. To defeat the tyrant who rules the new planet, each of the new heroes has up to three specializations in their skill tree that can be customized and combined along with the coveted loot they collect.
Valuable and destructive loot
Borderlands It wouldn't be the same without its firearms. The arsenal at the player's disposal retains the creativity, variety, and unpredictability of its predecessors. In fact, it includes even more customization thanks to a new system that allows parts to be exchanged between different manufacturers, altering the behavior of weapons and providing new features. Furthermore, the most lucrative rewards, which conceal the most incredible powers, legendary weapons, once again gain value because they are more difficult to obtain than in the last installment of the series.
Other tweaks, such as the ability to replay a mission or a confrontation against a final enemy, make life easier for players, allowing them to play with greater freedom. The developers have also presented a roadmap for future expansions and made clear their intention to keep the title alive beyond its launch. Finally, for those unfamiliar with the series, Gearbox assures that the new title is a suitable entry point for new players, although long-time fans will find familiar faces and gain a better understanding of its universe. Borderlands 4 It arrives on the most powerful platforms on the market this Friday, September 12, and a few weeks later, on October 3, in Nintendo's latest console.
