An eclectic Pyromusical with the stamp of Oques Grasses and with Dulceida as presenter on TV3

BarcelonaBarcelona said goodbye this Sunday to the 2026 La Mercè Festival with the traditional Piromusical, which this year featured several novelties. On one hand, after years of having Avinguda Maria Cristina as the stage, this year the fireworks and music show was held for the first time from Nova Icària beach. On the other, another novelty was television-related: Dulceida, influencer and presenter of La gran cita, was in charge of hosting the broadcast on TV3.

The Piromusical repertoire was marked, in part, by music in Catalan, a decision by Josep Montero, leader of Oques Grasses, who was in charge of selecting the songs. In two weeks, the group from Osona will experience one of the great milestones of their career with the four farewell concerts scheduled at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium on October 5th, 7th, 9th, and 10th. During the broadcast, Dulceida, who wore a fitted dress with a front part made of golden scales, very much in tune with the marine setting, declared herself a fan of Oques Grasses on several occasions.

In fact, Oques Grasses' tracks had a strong presence in the Piromusical repertoire. During the show, divided into five blocks, four songs by the band were played: La gent que estimo, the collaboration with Rita Payés; Molta tralla; Torno a ser jo, and Coet. The selection of Catalan music was transversal: it was possible to hear everything from classics such as Ull per ull, by Adrià Puntí, and Fa vint anys que tinc vint anys, byJoan Manuel Serrat, to more current proposals, such as No és la llum, by Rita Payés with Lau Noah and Elisabeth Roma, and Flor de primavera, by La Troba Kung-Fú. A song that has a good chance of becoming a staple of the Piromusical is Milionària, which returned to the show after two years ago Rosalía herself, the author of the track, included it in the selection she made for the pyrotechnic show.

Montero demonstrated his musical eclecticism with the selection of international songs, which ranged from major pop hits like With or without you, by U2, and Save your tears, by The Weeknd, to more indie proposals like Après moi, by Regina Spektor, and The privateers, by Andrew Bird. Aitana, Dua Lipa, and Billie Eilish, as representatives of the pop divas of the moment, also found a place in Montero's repertoire. The show ended with grandiosity: with O Fortuna, the opening movement of Carmina Burana.

The burning of the gunpowder –1,500 kilos– concluded with the traditional firecracker display that brings the night to a close, as well as Barcelona's summer festival, which this year had Shanghai as its guest city. This Sunday, the mayor, Jaume Collboni, announced in an interview with Betevé that in 2027 Mexico City will be the guest of the Catalan capital's festival.
