The vote places 'AI' in second place and 'neurodivergent' in third.
BarcelonaMore than 15,500 people have voted for one of The 10 candidate words for neologism of the yearAnd the one that received the most votes, 3,955, was "nighting out": a social activity that consists of going out before nightfall with friends or companions, generally at nightfall, in bars, terraces or other leisure spaces, to share tapas, drinks, music and conversation. Late It obtained 25.6% of the votes cast. The second and third most voted words were AI (3,490 votes, 22.5%) and neurodivergent (1,831 votes, 11.8%).
The campaign Word of the YearThe neologism competition, which selects the winning word, is an initiative of the Neology Observatory at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), the Philological Section of the Institute for Catalan Studies, TERMCAT, and 3Cat, with its linguistic portal esAdir. This edition has been the most successful of all, as it garnered the most votes. The winning words in previous editions were Estelada (2014), drone (2015), vegan (2016), pot-banging protest (2017), sisterhood (2018), climate emergency and animal rights activist (2019), coronavirus (2020), denialism (2021), beer (2022), viralize and uncle, aunt (2023) and dana (2024).
