Cookies, sustainability and music: what to do with children this week

First weekend of October in sight, and with a lot of proposals to enjoy as a family. As always, we have prepared a selection of activities for you to do with your children on October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, such as eating cookies in Camprodon, drawing a more sustainable future at the Education for Sustainability Festival, or experiencing Toca Festa, the family day at L’Auditori that seeks to bring music closer to everyone through a participatory, playful, and open experience.

Cultural and leisure activities

Did you know that Birba biscuits were born in Camprodon more than 125 years ago? This weekend you can learn more about them at the Biscuit Fair held on October 3rd and 4th. You will find a market of artisanal biscuits from different brands, pairings, live music, gastronomic demonstrations, and many more activities.

Children will enjoy the itinerant animations, music, and the visit of Cuki, the event's iconic character. There will also be a tourist train, guided tours of the factory, and family activities in the Petit Galeter space.

A new edition of the Education for Sustainability Festival arrives at the Museu Terra this Saturday, October 3rd. Within its program, you will find activities, workshops, concerts, theater, and puppets for all ages, featuring illustration as the protagonist.

And take note, because if you are an education professional, you might be interested in attending the professional conference on Friday, October 2nd. A meeting space to transform pedagogical practice and explore new ways of working on sustainability challenges this year, with illustration as an ally.

Next Saturday, October 3rd, L’Auditori is organizing Toca Festa, L’Auditori's family day. A proposal that seeks to bring music closer to everyone through a participatory, playful, and open experience.

Throughout the day you will find concerts, workshops, and educational proposals in different spaces of the facility such as the La Llanterna area, Sala 2 Oriol Martorell, or the Music Museum. For most activities, it is not necessary to have tickets; in case of doubt, consult the details of the entire program. A very good opportunity to get to know the educational proposal and family programming of L'Auditori.

In Barcelona on Sunday, October 4th, the Esquerra de l'Eixample will be the setting for the Festa Major Bike Ride. A proposal organized every year by the Bicycle Club of Catalonia (BACC).

A sporting and leisure activity designed for families eager to spend a morning on two wheels and to advocate for the use of bicycles on the streets of Barcelona. Featuring a circular route through the neighborhood and children's activities related to cycling, creativity, and sustainable mobility.

Children also enjoy the Gran Teatre del Liceu thanks to the Petit Liceu program. This autumn it is inaugurated by Young Aïda, a modern show with virtual reality, retrofuturism, and contemporary emotion.

A reinterpretation of the iconic Aida by Verdi with musical arrangements that combine the essence of the original opera with new compositions and a technological and audiovisual staging that recalls the aesthetic of early video games. Accompany young Aïda in reflecting on what is real in what we experience in fiction and what is fictional in what we experience in reality.

In the middle of the Pyrenees mountains, Lo Llumener is held, a festival of artistic and literary experiences designed for families with children of all ages.

This 11th edition focuses on the passage of time, and its programming, which has been designed by listening to the children, opts for shows and literary activities that will take its visitors on a journey through great literary tales, from classics to comics. A good practice for promoting reading in a natural and unique environment such as the forest.

Taking a trip to the past is always fun for the family. Do not miss the Iberian Weekend, a unique opportunity to delve into the world of the Iberians through their architecture and urban planning.

Throughout the weekend, about thirty sites, museums, and interpretation centers of the Route of the Iberians will offer guided and dramatized tours, workshops, talks, and activities for all audiences. You will discover how the communities that inhabited our territory more than two thousand years ago lived, built, and organized their spaces. An event organized by the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia (MAC) as part of the celebration of Barcelona as the World Capital of Architecture 2026.

Do your little ones like to collect small pieces, little animals, and amulets? Then at the Espai Minipanera in Lleida there is an exhibition they will love: The warmth of beautiful things, by Martina Rogers, visual artist and cultural mediator. An exhibition of objects that, through play and connection with nature, invites you to open all your senses to capture the invisible.

This artist uses her hands as her main tool, and fuses various plastic techniques, such as drawing, engraving, ceramics, and animation. She knows very well how to transfer energy through clay modeling. Color, brightness, shape, and texture exude vital movement. Come and discover the warmth of beautiful things!

Literary recommendations

A necessary read to make adolescents and young people reflect on power and decision-making. From the first human tribes to social media, we see how the mechanisms of leadership, authority, influence, and power repeat themselves through history, politics, psychology, and culture.

According to PAH Barcelona, 70% of evictions in Catalonia affect households with children or adolescents, which means 2,800 families with minors evicted per year. Any eviction involving minors should make us all get up from our chairs, as the housing emergency conditions the development and social participation of children and adolescents. In fact, Unicef attributes child poverty in Catalonia to the housing emergency, since 22.2% of children under 16 "live in families that suffer from delays in housing payments." In a society where having a home is a luxury and many families survive in the wake of rampant inflation, perhaps the time has come to put children at the center of the debate.
