In a few days we enter autumn, although climate change has been altering the seasons for some time now. Since it looks like it will be sunny this weekend, we have prepared a selection of activities for you to do with your sons and daughters on September 18th, 19th, and 20th, such as taking a stroll through the Catalan Book Week, enjoying the return of the Festa al Cel in Salou, birdwatching at the Delta Birding Festival at Món Natura Delta, or awakening artistic creation at the Pluja d'Art Fair in Sant Jordi Desvalls.

From September 18th to 27th, the Passeig Lluís Companys in Barcelona will be the stage for the largest festival of books and magazines in the Catalan language. With the start of the school year, family movie premieres also arrive. This Friday, Mumbo Jumbo Gets Huge hits the big screen, a story dedicated to the importance of believing in one's own strength and in each person's identity.

Mumbo is a hippo who lives comfortably with his mother, but one day, by accident, he eats a mysterious mushroom that makes him grow and grow. He is so huge that he doesn't even fit in his house. Luckily, a mandrill named Frede finds the solution to the problem, but Mumbo will have to go all the way to Siberia to find it. If you like birdwatching at home, this weekend head to the Delta Birding Festival, the only ornithological festival held in Catalonia. During this week and until the big day, eleven publishers and two stationery stores will take to the streets of the capital of the Noguera region so that the little ones can discover and choose their next read.

Fantastic stories will take over the streets and squares of the historic center, with a program that includes exhibitions, workshops, and shows designed to enjoy, listen to, and see some of the most beloved readings performed. Visitors will be able to listen to tales from yesterday and today while strolling through the town, participate in activities and workshops, experience the magic of the night of legends, and discover the latest releases in children's and illustrated books. If you want to take a trip to the past, visit the Archaeology Museum of Catalonia, located in Montjuïc. This month of September, a family activity is offered where you will discover that pollen can reveal what a landscape was like thousands of years ago.

SAT! Sant Andreu Teatre opens its Remenuts cycle with Lumiero, by the company La Menuda Produccions. It is a poetic and evocative show that has won the Best Scenotechnics Award at FETEN 2026. Both young and old will be captivated by the live music, created with traditional instruments, contraptions, and musical toys, which bring the universe of Lumiero to life.

You still have until October to visit the corn maze at Granja Pifarré in Lleida. An activity that brings the Horta de Lleida and the work of local producers to all audiences. Throughout the route, you will have to overcome a series of agro-cultural, educational, and entertaining tests in equal parts, under the slogan "Flavors of the West". It is an ideal activity to do with family and friends. In addition, when you finish, you can have a drink on their terrace with products from Ponent and let the children play in the rural play area with a tractor circuit. The corn maze is open on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings in September and October. The ticket price is €10 for adults and €8 for children.

The family activities at La Pedrera - Casa Milà are a very good opportunity to visit this unique building in the city and at the same time learn more about its architecture. You already know that Gaudí was very inspired by nature. Therefore, in this activity, full of mystery, you will be able to find out which animals and plants are hidden within the walls of La Pedrera - Casa Milà.

From September 16th to 22nd, the European Mobility Week (EMW) is celebrated, and towns and cities fill their streets with activities under the slogan "Mobility for everyone". The event advocates for universal access to sustainable and quality public transport regardless of income, location, gender, or abilities. That is why this new publication from the Catalan publisher EntreDos seemed ideal to us.

Food for thought

The WHO considers breast milk as the best nutrition for babies during the first six months of life, but breastfeeding cannot always be maintained as families would like. In this context, the Ministry of Health has taken a step forward with a draft royal decree that, for the first time, will regulate the promotion and advertising of infant formulas. The regulation will prohibit advertising formula milk for babies up to six months old and will limit the advertising of follow-on and growing-up milks. It will also prevent pediatricians and health centers from accepting free samples, gifts, or sponsorships from brands, and also from handing out these products to families. The Ministry of Health argues that these practices can interfere with informed decisions and reduce the prevalence and duration of breastfeeding. It is a pity that the measure does not act on other needs related to breastfeeding such as pain, lack of support, social pressure, or maternity leave. If we are committed to breastfeeding during the first six months of life, we also need maternity leave for the same period and real reconciliation measures for families working in the private sector.
