BarcelonaThe Ukrainian army launched a drone attack this Saturday night against Saint Petersburg, Russia's second city, and the Leningrad region. It is considered one of the largest drone attacks of the entire war, leaving one person dead and five injured.
The governor of the region, Alexandr Beglov, has confirmed the death of a citizen of the former tsarist capital and the downing of 144 unmanned aerial vehicles over the skies of the Leningrad area. Specifically, the region's main oil terminal, an electrical substation, an e-commerce warehouse, a Vkontakte data center—the Russian Facebook—and a bridge were attacked and damaged.
This attack took place a few hours after the White House agreed with the Kremlin on a deal for the supply of Russian diesel to the US and the international market, also lifting some of the sanctions that were weighing on Russia. This move has been harshly criticized by Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, and various voices from the European Union.
In total, according to initial estimates, some 20,000 people have been left without electricity in a city of more than 5 million inhabitants due to the damage caused to the Vostochnaya substation, to which must be added damage to several residential buildings in Leningrad.
