A Russian drone attacks a Ukrainian passenger train two kilometers from the border of Poland

BarcelonaA Russian drone attacked a passenger train traveling between Kyiv and Warsaw this Sunday, just two kilometers from the border with Poland, without causing any injuries in what Ukraine has described as "Putin's terror striking directly at the doors of the EU and NATO." Tonight, Russia attacked Ukraine with four missiles and 405 drones. The attack has left at least six dead and more than forty injured and has especially affected the western part of the country, which was relatively more preserved. Since Ukrainian airspace is closed due to the Russian aggression, the train is one of the main routes for the entry and exit of people and goods to the country.

The attacks have set off alarms in Poland: authorities have reported that, in addition to the train, a truck that was less than a kilometer from the Dorohusk-Yahodyn border crossing also suffered an impact. The Kremlin has claimed that it attacked military shipments that were being moved "towards Ukraine from Europe." In Lithuania, authorities briefly closed Vilnius airport after drone activity was allegedly observed. NATO scrambled at least one fighter jet in response to the alert, which ultimately turned out to be caused by a flock of birds. According to Lithuanian authorities, the airport reopened after 40 minutes.

According to passengers on the train cited in international media, before the attack they were made to leave the train in the middle of the night for two hours and shortly before nine in the morning, when they were about to reach the border with Poland.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has alerted European allies in a message on X: "The Russian barbarians are at your doors, dear partners."

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a message on Telegram: "We Ukrainians fight every day to prevent these attacks from spreading further into Europe, giving our lives and preventing the aggression from expanding." Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, who had visited Kyiv this week, described the events as a "Putin escalation".

In recent weeks, Russia and Ukraine have intensified attacks on critical infrastructure, far from the front line. US President Donald Trump has urged Zelenskyy to "stop attacking oil in Russia," in reference to Ukrainian attacks on refineries that have caused fuel shortages.
