WashingtonThe Brazilian far-right leader Flávio Bolsonaro and his family landed this Wednesday in Miami, where the Donald Trump administration has already announced it will grant them new visas after the politician fled Brazil and refused to hand over his passport to the Brazilian authorities, who are investigating him for two corruption cases.

Flávio Bolsonaro left Brazil on Tuesday night, two days after losing the election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who staged a historic comeback against all odds. Bolsonaro had hoped to win the runoff election and be able to deactivate the two corruption investigations he has pending.

In the images obtained at the Miami-Opa Locka airport, it can be seen how Bolsonaro has disembarked from the plane, a Gulfstream G400, with his wife and his two daughters. The fugitive will likely meet with his brother Eduardo Bolsonaro, who lives in Florida. It was he who proposed the option of turning to Donald Trump's government to leave the country in case of losing to Lula.

Flávio Bolsonaro's secret exit is said to have been orchestrated by the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. When it had already become known that the far-right candidate had abandoned the country after the Brazilian authorities ordered him to surrender his passport as part of the judicial investigations, the US Department of State confirmed to various media outlets that it will issue visas for Flávio Bolsonaro and his entire family.

According to various Brazilian media outlets and the Reuters agency, Bolsonaro entered Argentina on Tuesday night (at 3 a.m. local time), accompanied by his wife and two daughters, through the Tancredo Neves International Bridge, which crosses the Iguaçu River and connects Brazil with Argentina. From there, he took a private flight from the company Baires Fly heading to Guayaquil, Ecuador, and at 11 a.m. local time, it took off toward Miami. Flávio Bolsonaro has thus turned, in 48 hours, from a presidential candidate to a fugitive from justice in his own country.
