Five thousand evacuated in eastern Crete due to a large forest fire

A massive wildfire in eastern Crete has forced the evacuation of some 5,000 people, mostly tourists, and caused severe damage to homes and businesses. The fire, which started yesterday near Achlia, has spread rapidly through forested and mountainous areas due to wind and high temperatures.
