BarcelonaThe Council of Ministers approved a royal decree-law on Tuesday extending, until the end of 2026, tax incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles and for energy efficiency improvements, as well as the deduction of up to 15% in personal income tax for the installation of electric vehicle charging stations. Regarding the aid program, the Auto+ Plan is also included, with a budget of 400 million euros for the purchase of electric vehicles. This Auto+ Plan provides subsidies of up to 4,500 euros for the purchase of an electric car. These subsidies will be retroactive for purchases made from January 1st onwards and are aimed at boosting the sale of electrified vehicles, whether pure electric or plug-in hybrid – that is, with a zero-emissions label from the DGT (Spanish Directorate General of Traffic). The subsidies prioritize electric cars manufactured in the European Union and priced under 35,000 euros.

To receive 100% of the maximum subsidy, the government has calculated the maximum amount a buyer should receive based on the EEE formula (electric, economical, and European). This will reward the cheapest electric models manufactured in Europe, helping an industry that has seen the arrival of Chinese brands to the market in recent months.

In detail, for someone to benefit from the maximum subsidy when buying a passenger car (€4,500 per vehicle), the car purchased must be a pure electric vehicle (which guarantees receiving 50% of the subsidy), and must have a price below €35,000 (and 25% of that amount) (the other 25%).

If the model is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) with a DGT zero-emissions label, it will receive 25% less of the maximum aid, i.e., €3,375, provided it meets the other two conditions: a price below €35,000.

Regarding vehicle prices, those costing less than €35,000 will receive 25% of the maximum aid, which will be reduced to 15% for those costing between €35,000 and €45,000. Above this price, no subsidy will be granted. Vehicles whose assembly and final completion before marketing have been carried out in an industrial facility within the European Union will be allocated 15% of the maximum aid.

If, in addition, part of the battery manufacturing process takes place in the EU, an additional 10% can be claimed. This process must include at least the assembly of the battery packsHowever, alternative additional concepts may be proposed to benefit from that 10%. The plan also includes aid for passenger cars with up to nine seats, motorcycles, and quadricycles.
