BarcelonaThe US multinational Hologic, specialized in women's health, has reached an agreement to acquire the biotech company Reveal Genomics, a firm founded in Barcelona in 2020 and focused on the development of genomic tests for the personalized treatment of breast cancer.

As reported by the Barcelona-based company in a statement, the operation opens "a new chapter" in the mission to ensure that every breast cancer patient "receives the most appropriate treatment thanks to better-informed therapeutic decisions". "This agreement represents a great opportunity to take our mission even further", highlighted the CEO of Reveal Genomics, Patricia Villagrasa, who adds that Hologic's "global reach" will facilitate the expansion of their product.

For now, the purchase amount has not been detailed. In the same statement, both groups indicate that the operation remains pending approval from regulators in Spain and other conditions customary in transactions of this type. In the meantime, Reveal Genomics and Hologic will operate as two separate and independent companies.

A spin-off of Catalan centers

Reveal Genomics' flagship product is called HER2DX, a genomic test for patients with early-stage HER2-positive breast cancer. The test provides additional biological information to medical professionals to obtain relevant clinical information that helps guide therapeutic decisions regarding treatment.

Founded in 2020 in the Catalan capital, Reveal Genomics was born from three reference academic and research institutions: IDIBAPS/Clínic Barcelona, the University of Barcelona, and the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology.

With a staff of 19 employees, the company received 335,000 euros through the Neotec program, an initiative framed within the Spanish government's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, charged to the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. With Patricia Villagrasa, Aleix Prat, Joel Parker, and Ana Vivancos as co-founders, the company has also received investments from Catalan individuals and family offices.

Hologic, for its part, closed the 2025 fiscal year with revenues of 4.1 billion dollars (nearly 3.65 billion euros) and employed more than 7,000 people globally.
