BarcelonaThis Thursday, the new edition of the Saló Ocasió opened its doors at the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona, after the last few editions were held at Plaça Espanya. With the move, the show aspires to recover the 20,000 attendees it had before the pandemic, since, according to the organizers, it is easier to park at the new location. In a context of rising vehicle prices, the president of the Gremi del Motor, Jaume Roura, maintains that there are offers of up to 40% discount on some models at the show.
During the inauguration of the fair, Roura presented a proposal for incentives to the Minister of Business and Labor, Miquel Sàmper, to encourage the renewal of the vehicle fleet in Catalonia. The plan, drawn up by the employers' association Fecavem, provides for the creation of "a direct, simple and stable aid program, conditional on the scrapping of an old passenger car, which recognizes both new and young, efficient second-hand vehicles as eligible vehicles". In this way, the business entity wants to provide a solution to the current aging of Catalan vehicles which, according to the employers' association, "has direct effects on emissions, road safety and air quality".
An aging fleet
The report that Fecavem presented to Sàmper also details the emissions that could be saved: the study estimates that a passenger car of 15 years or older emits on average 160.9 g of CO₂/km, compared to 118.8 g/km for a used vehicle of up to 5 years. With a reference annual distance of 11,863 km, the replacement avoids approximately 499 kg of CO₂ each year, a reduction of 26.2%. According to the report, 41.8% of the vehicles in the current fleet are 14 years old or older.
The Ocasió Show –which displays more than 2,000 semi-new vehicles from zero-kilometer, management, courtesy, or rental and leasing company fleets, among others– will be open until this Sunday. Last year, the event closed with 15,000 visitors and more than 1,100 vehicles sold, which represented a business volume of about 26 million euros. The average price of the exhibited vehicles was 24,200 euros.
