Salvador Illa's executive is negotiating the acquisition of 1,107 more apartments
BarcelonaThe President of the Generalitat (Catalan Government), Salvador Illa, announced this Monday that on November 13, the Government will formalize the purchase of 170 social housing units owned by InmoCaixa, the real estate subsidiary of CriteriaCaixa, for approximately €15 million.
The new properties are located in developments in Lleida and Mollet del Vallès, and also in Banyoles. where several tenants on rent strike live, an action initiated seven months ago by the Renters' Union, which until now brought together a total of 68 families from Banyoles, Sentmenat, Sitges, Palau-solità and Plegamans. This action to denounce abusive clauses, which was expected to be joined soon by the tenants of the blocks that the Generalitat will acquire in Lleida, arrived at the Palau de la Generalitat last Thursday. A representation of the Tenants' Union, which included delegates "from the strikers against La Caixa", met with Salvador Illa to address this issue.
As Illa explained in statements to 2Cat, on RTVE, the Government is currently negotiating the purchase of 1,107 more homes. The first major operation was a package of 450 homes, agreed by the previous government and initially estimated at 433 floors, distributed among different municipalities,as the ARA advanced, within the framework of the Plan andmpulso 10,000, which the government led by Pere Aragonès activated in March 2023.
Within this plan, the Generalitat estimated in August 2024 that 925 homes had been acquired from large holders through Incasòl. However, according to the Catalan government, this is the third package purchased from InmoCaixa, which means that the Generalitat has now acquired a total of 843 apartments through this channel.
