The Government brings citizen attention closer to 600,000 Catalans

The service will focus on helping the citizen so that they can access digital procedures

BarcelonaThe Government is launching a new service to bring access to the Generalitat's in-person procedures and services closer to more than 600,000 Catalans. Starting Monday, five vehicles will travel through rural areas and poorly connected territories so that citizens can carry out the procedures they need from their municipality. The five mobile Citizen Service Offices (OAC) will serve a total of 200 municipalities; specifically, each vehicle will cover 40 towns. And, as stated by the Department of the Presidency of the Generalitat, routes have been defined to "guarantee balanced and homogeneous coverage of the entire country." For 2026 and 2027, the Generalitat will invest approximately 2.43 million euros in this service.

To select the municipalities they will visit, according to the Government, several criteria have been taken into account. Among others, one of the requirements has been that the population over 50 years old be greater than that between 15 and 49 years old. Proximity criteria have also been considered: it has been observed that the distance to their county council is more than 13 km or that more than 30 km are exceeded to the nearest OAC. The Government's plan foresees that the mobile offices will move to each of the municipalities, approximately, once a month and that the duration of the visit will be between an hour and a half and three hours, usually in the morning. "The objective is to make life easier for the country's citizens," assured the Minister of the Presidency, Albert Dalmau.

Various services

The mobile OACs will be able to offer various services: from appointment management to support for registering with and using digital identification systems. Precisely this latter service has been one of the most requested in Terres de l'Ebre, where a service trial has been underway for almost two years. Other procedures that can be carried out at the enabled offices range from renewing a certificate to requesting aid. In addition, a digital agent who will travel by van will accompany the service. "It is also about facilitating the tools so that citizens can operate remotely with the administration," explained Dalmau.

According to the Government, during the time the trial office has been enabled in Terres de l'Ebre, it has carried out a total of 2,047 procedures in the area. It has mainly assisted people over 65 years of age. The results of the trial have received "great acceptance". According to the Department of the Presidency, a survey of users has shown that the mobile OAC is perceived as a useful, close, and effective service, and citizens rate it with a score of 4.89 out of 5.
