Tatxo Benet, new president of FemCAT

The journalist takes over from Oriol Guixà as head of the foundation for the period 2026-2027

BarcelonaTatxo Benet (Lleida, 1957) was appointed this Thursday as the new president of FemCAT, the private foundation of Catalan businessmen, within the framework of its biennial assembly, held this afternoon in Arenys de Munt. As reported by the ARABenet takes over from the outgoing president, Oriol Guixà (La Farga), and will lead the institution during the 2026-2027 term, becoming the tenth president of FemCAT. As is customary at this meeting, the foundation's board of trustees has also been renewed.

Benet is a journalist and businessman, best known for being one of the public faces of Mediapro as president and CEO, until he left the production company last year. He began his professional career in journalism in The Country and The Newspaper and was part of the founding team of Televisió de Catalunya. She is also a well-known figure in the cultural world, with initiatives such as the Museum of Forbidden Art and the Ona Bookstore in Barcelona.

For her part, Oriol Guixà Starting this Thursday, he will become an honorary patron, as will the other former presidents of the foundation, a position that grants him the right to speak and vote on that body. Past presidents of FemCAT include well-known figures from the business world such as Oriol Guixà (La Farga), David Marín (Inacceso Geotécnica), Elena Massot (Vertix), Pau Relat (MAT Holding and president of the Barcelona Trade Fair), Ramon Carbonell (Bonvent), Miquel Martí (Moventia), Carles Sumario, and Joaquim Boixareu (Irestal Group).

Challenges

According to the foundation itself, Benet's mandate will focus on "promoting wealth creation and social cohesion, acting on all the country's strategic axes, such as the business sector, the power of knowledge as a driver of a new economic and productive model, tax policy, and language as a fundamental factor in this social cohesion." The organization also reviewed the milestones of Guixà's term, which coincided with the foundation's 20th anniversary, highlighting the 13th FemCAT Forum entitled Catalan Legacies: We project the Catalonia of 2044and which brought together more than 500 business leaders, institutional representatives, academics, and social stakeholders to reflect on the major challenges facing Catalonia in the future.

President Oriol Guixà's term has been marked by a clear commitment to strengthening FemCAT's role as a space for connection between the business world, academia, the social sector, and public institutions, with the aim of contributing to a more competitive, innovative, and cohesive Catalonia. This period has also coincided with the Foundation's 20th anniversary, a milestone that has allowed for a retrospective view of FemCAT's trajectory and reaffirmed its long-term commitment to the region. Also noteworthy is the trip benchmarking in South Korea, and the resumption of the Parliament and Business program with the celebration of the 14th edition, dedicated to the energy sector.
