Menzies workers call off this weekend's strike at Barcelona Airport.
The company serves a dozen airlines such as Emirates, British Airways, American Airlines and Norwegian.
BarcelonaWorkers at Menzies, the company that provides ground service to a dozen airlines at El Prat Airport, have suspended their planned strike days for this weekend. The strike committee, led by the UGT (Union of Workers' Unions), has reached a preliminary agreement with management on issues such as paying outstanding working days and guaranteeing schedules that do not exceed the maximums established by the collective bargaining agreement. Improvements have also been achieved, such as a more equitable distribution of shifts and breaks, the planning of holidays without impositions, and the monthly publication of shifts.
Menzies' most important base in Spain is in Barcelona, with around 500 workers responsible for providing the handling Airlines such as Emirates, British Airways, Avianca, Latam, American Airlines, Egypt Air, Turkish Airlines, Aer Lingus, Norwegian, Wizz Air, and Transavia have also called strikes at the airports of Palma, Alicante, Malaga, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife.
After a first weekend of protests, workers have decided to suspend them, pending a final agreement that would allow the strike to be called off. For now, the 24-hour strikes that remain in effect are next Saturday and Sunday. In the event of non-compliance with the commitments made, UGT indicates that the strike may resume automatically, without the need for further notice.
The Ryanair strike continues.
Menzies workers weren't the only ones on strike at Barcelona Airport. Those at Azul Handling, the subsidiary responsible for the airport service, have also been on strike for a week. handling Ryanair, Malta Air, and the charter services Lauda and Buzz. In this case, the strike continues, with stoppages every Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday until December 31.
