Iberia suspends direct flights to Cuba from June
While the suspension lasts, the company's clients will be able to travel to Panama and, from there, continue their journey thanks to an agreement with Copa Airlines
BarcelonaIberia will temporarily suspend its direct flights to Cuba starting in June. According to the company, the decision is motivated by the "situation the country is going through" for several months, which has "significantly impacted" demand. Flight sales, however, will remain open from November, when the airline plans to resume the route, "provided conditions permit." In recent months, the company's operations in Cuba were already being affected by . In fact, as Iberia specifies, since last February 9th it has been necessary to make a technical stop in Santo Domingo in order to refuel the flights returning to Madrid.The suspension will be carried out gradually: during April, Iberia will operate three weekly frequencies to Cuba from Madrid. In May, the company will reduce the schedule to two flights a week; finally, from June, direct operations on this route will be suspended. Iberia, however, assures that while the suspension lasts, customers will be able to travel to Panama and, from there, continue their journey to Cuba thanks to an agreement with Copa Airlines. In addition, Iberia will keep its offices in Havana open to assist customers who require it.
