BarcelonaThe neobank Revolut is suffering an outage that has left thousands of clients unable to use their accounts. As confirmed by the financial entity in a post on its social media, it is currently "suffering a service disruption" that affects most of the utilities available to clients. In fact, according to Revolut's official page, most activities are affected by the outage: from account access to payments, bank transfers, or cash withdrawals at ATMs, among others.
The entity, it must be said, has tried to convey some reassurance to its users: in a post on the official account of the social network X, Revolut assures that "clients' money and data are safe". It has also acknowledged that it has been "working since it identified the error this morning" to fix it, at this moment without success, according to its status page.
According to Revolut's status web portal, the company detects problems with account access, logins, and activity with bank cards. Also in national and international transfers, as well as in activity with financial or credit products.
Incidents at Google
The incident at Revolut coincides with a problem in the Google Cloud infrastructure, which has detected several errors at its London facilities, which serve Western Europe. As the North American tech giant reports on its website, “multiple services are experiencing errors and intermittent network failures in the region”. According to Google, work is underway to restore the service in the short term. The incident was detected around 11 p.m. Pacific time, that is, around 8 a.m. in Catalonia. The Reuters agency directly links the two incidents, citing sources close to the matter.
The website Downdetector, which collects incidents reported by users, points to an increase in connection problems in parallel to the Google Cloud disconnections. In addition to Revolut, the portal records incidents at entities of the scale of Lloyds Bank or HSBC, among others. ING has also acknowledged technical problems with online banking and the application in Germany, as it has detailed on its social networks. Google keeps the incident open, and has already announced that it will offer updates on the status of the connection.
