Catalan exports fell by 4.6% in April

Catalan exports fell by 4.6% in April compared to the same month last year, reaching €8.128 billion. The main exporting sectors were chemical products, with €2.385 billion—a 3.9% decrease and 29.3% of the total—followed by capital goods, with €1.364 billion—a 1.4% increase year-on-year and 16.8% of the total—and food and beverages, with €8.22 billion and 15.9% of the total. Across the country, exports fell by 4.4%, to €32.51 billion. by the United States government and its tariff policyOn the other hand, exports to the Member States of the European Union (EU) fell by 6.4% to €4.9099 billion, down 4.2% to €708.2 million.

Regarding Catalan imports, they totaled €9.587 billion, a 7.9% decrease. These purchases represent 26.3% of the total for the State. However, the trade deficit narrowed from €1.892 billion to €1.458 billion, according to ministry data. For the State as a whole, imports fell 5.8%, to €36.393 billion, reducing the trade deficit from €4.655 billion to €3.882 billion.

Considering the cumulative period since January, Catalan exports increased by 1.2% compared to the first four months of 2024. In total, sales abroad amounted to €33.178 billion and represented 25.8% of the State's total. Regarding imports so far this year, they rose to €38.669 billion, a 5.1% increase, and represented 26.3% of the State's total. As a result, the trade deficit increased from €4.0684 billion to €5.5213 billion in one year.
