Tony Gatlif, the Franco-Algerian director who most explored Gypsy culture and identity in cinema, has died at the age of 77 in Arles, France. Born in 1948 in Algiers, he directed about twenty films, with titles such as Gadjo dilo (1997), Vengo (2000) and Exils (2004), awarded at Cannes.
