The culmination of Remedio de Ca la Fresca's great year
The group from Arbúcies closes the tour with an exhilarating concert at Sala Apolo
BarcelonaYou set your expectations extremely high, because you've already seen the bread that's served at the concerts of Ca la Fresca RemedyAnd they always surpass expectations, as happened on Thursday at Sala Apolo in a furious and entertaining performance, with overflowing charisma on stage and infectious enthusiasm among the audience. At the end of last year, the band from Arbúcies released The hook of the question (Bankrobber), one of the best albums of 2024 according to the ARASince then, they have given more than sixty concerts, fiercely defending a rock that is born in the cracks of time, free from stylistic constraints, while connected to the most distressing present, that of the various depredations that affect the country: the plundering of aquifers, the salinization of the fields, lies of the far right... Remedio de Ca la Fresca are from Arbúcies and they are angry, but instead of being a nuisance they channel the insurrection with irony, poetry and a conception of the show that reminds us of the power of live music.
The concert, presented as the tour finale, was a celebration of collective work and the culmination of a great year. As usual, the four members of the group alternated instruments, although the stage presence was carried by singer Xantal Rodríguez, a fierce force like few others, with a voice full of stories. And in keeping with the celebratory spirit, they invited other musicians to join the coven. For example, Lucas Valverde (the saxophonist from La Ludwig Band), Ildefonso Alonso (La Sentina), Carme Vives, and the bands Minibús Intergaláctico and Power Burkas. All of this in service of a telluric psychedelia propelled by a group capable of strolling hand in hand with the rock of Triana and the spells of the poet Maria Callís, of moving the audience by giving voice to the indignant verses of the Palestinian Rafeef Ziadah (All shades of rage), of covering the Chipmunks (Come back, come back, Serrallonga) with a punk attitude, to interpret It's going as it is. Ovidi Montllor's sharp nails... When towards the end they played Mountain pain, one of the best songs of recent years, the Apollo was already conquered territory by Remei de Ca la Fresca, "she who bothers everyone with everything she does, / because she has appropriated all of life and seems not to be afraid," as Xantal Rodríguez sings in FreshThat's the Arbúcies group for you, facing life head-on.
