The Cuban for the love of art, and highly recommended
'Love Came by Taxi', at the Teatre Romea, has a hellish rhythm and absolute precision

The Cuban always explores and exploits the most playful part of life, even when organizing a funeral (Goodbye, Arthur). Play is their territory and fun is their goal. And in this they coincide exactly with the approaches and objectives of the amateur theater companies they pay homage to in the new show, which bears its title, one of the most frequented works by the maestro Rafael Anglada. Love came by taxiA taxi that carries in its trunk the history of the company and above all that fantastic and memorable Eat my black coconut and a few doses of Paral·lel.
Because it's not just a tribute to amateur theater, but also a tribute to theater (they've always done that) and, above all, a nostalgic look full of enthusiasm and appreciation for the artists who, in the 1950s, entertained audiences and covered up the sadness and grayness.
La Cubana proposes a trip back to 1959 and to the stage of a parish center where the titular companion rehearses Rafael Anglada's play. Every Tuesday at 10 p.m., a large group of women and men (how many years ago was it that the Romea didn't see up to 17 performers and musicians live!) get together to have a good time and perform. Cubaneros all as if they came out of a comic strip with the touch of exaggeration that characterizes them, because there are many types of theater, but La Cubana's is unique.
All of this is a perfect excuse to sail with them to other stages and remember Alady, Bella Dorita and Los Vieneses. And if the troupe of La Cubana has grown to the impossible, what can we say about the avalanche of costumes and the recovery of the painted curtains of the period (Castells Planas and Hermanos Salvador) that frame the performance and give it a certain adorable antiquity. Everything happens at a frantic pace and with absolute precision. Choreography, white humor and many songs from before and others new, like the one dedicated to the theater of triplet (scaring) or the one that closes the show, because everyone does theater for the love of it. And the audience comes clapping. Highly recommended.
