La Perla 29 will adapt 'The House of Bernarda Alba' with Nora Navas

BarcelonaWith the season already underway and the theater listings full of proposals, La Perla 29 presented this Tuesday the schedule that, throughout the course, will fill the Teatre de la Biblioteca. "We like to do it this way, when all the theaters have already presented their shows weeks ago. We are very excited to meet today, to feel like a group and to be able to explain what we are preparing," said the director of La Perla 29, Oriol Broggi. In fact, it has been a week since the theater has been in operation after the summer break and is hosting performances of Don't look, the production by Cultura i Conflicte which portrays the repression and torture during the Chilean dictatorship.

Ten years after Bodas de sangre, La Perla 29 will return to Lorca with the poet's last theatrical work, La casa de Bernarda Alba. Directed by Broggi, the cast will feature Nora Navas and Màrcia Cisteró at the helm, who will play the characters of Poncia and Bernarda Alba, respectively. "Bodas de sangre was a wonderful journey. We were very eager to return to Lorca and this was the year to do it," emphasizes Navas, in reference to the fact that the production will coincide with the commemoration of the centenary of the Generation of '27. The play will premiere on January 28 and will feature on stage Marissa Josa, Miriam Moukhles, Cristina Arenas, Andrea Portella, Clara Mir, and Sílvia Forns.

The season will see the return to the stage of the Teatre de la Biblioteca of Pere Arquillué, who had not stepped on it since 2012, when he performed Cyrano de Bergerac. Now the actor will headline Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller, under the direction of Ferran Utzet and with Mónica López and Edu Lloveras, among others, as fellow cast members. The show will serve to close the La Perla 29 season and will premiere on June 2. Before that, starting November 18, the company will revive one of its greatest hits: Birds of a Kind, by Wajdi Mouawad, which premiered two years ago, sold out tickets for months on end and received several awards. "It is a story of burning relevance that gives a small touch of explanation to a situation as complex as that of Israel and Palestine," emphasizes Marissa Josa, who will return to perform in it. Miriam Moukhles will also be there as a lead. For the actress, the show is "a love story within a conflict that divides people who try to live together in the same space" and gives way "to hope".

The Shakespeare Festival returns

La Perla 29 will experience the return of the Shakespeare Festival in April, which disappeared in 2015 due to a lack of resources. Now the initiative is reborn under the direction of Montse Vellvehí, with the intention of becoming biennial and with the complicity of some Barcelona theaters such as the Lliure, the Maldà, the Sala Beckett, and the FlyHard. Although the programming has not yet been made public, Broggi has announced that La Perla 29 will host three international shows. In parallel, the Raval space will be part of the Autumn Flash with two monologues about the past: the Brazilian Deserto, directed by Luiz Felipe Reis and inspired by the work of Roberto Bolaño, will be performed from October 21 to 23. And the Lithuanian Šventoji, by Oskaras Koršunovas, will explore the figure of Mary of Egypt with two performances, on October 28 and 29.
