BarcelonaThe Centre Excursionista de Catalunya (CEC) is turning 150 years old, and starting this November, it will organize a whole series of activities to commemorate its birth and, above all, to celebrate that it remains a living entity well-connected to the country's cultural activity. The presentation of this program of events will be announced next week, but for now, it is already known that the poster is a work by the artist Perejaume, one of the great figures of contemporary Catalan art. The work invites a broad look at the backbone spirit that hiking has traditionally had in Catalonia: the resemblance between the waves of the sea and the shapes of the mountain ranges refers to an integral concept of the territory that unites nature, culture, and identity.

The choice of Perejaume has a lot to do with the tradition of the CEC, which has always had the vocation of uniting hiking with other disciplines such as photography, cartography, literature, heritage, research, and the Catalan language. A broad vision that will also be reflected in the celebration events of this 150th anniversary.

"It is not only that the water generates this image of mountain ranges, of more or less snowy foam, but also this thing of the countryside, of an expanse plowed with open furrows, ready to be cultivated," explains Perejaume about the poster. The artist, in addition, also speaks about the CEC anniversary: "For me, it is an honor to make this poster, especially after what Joan Mir贸 did for the 100 years. Congratulations to these mountains and these hills, that there is an entity that has been looking at them for 150 years".
