Leticia Martín recommends 'Death and Spring' to fully enjoy La Veronal's adaptation.

BarcelonaThe recent release of the adaptation that La Veronal has made of Death and Spring At the Venice Dance Biennale, it has rekindled interest in Mercè Rodoreda's most transgressive novel. The director of the Grec Festival, Leticia Martín (Granada, 1978), recommends going to see the production at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya with your homework done. "It's about preparing for the start of the season and celebrating the premiere of La Veronal in Venice, because Marcos Morau is an unquestionable creator of Catalan culture," says Martín. In fact, the show is a co-production with the TNC and can also be seen at the next edition of the Temporada Alta festival.

Martín believes that reviving this novel is also a very opportune way to warm up for Barcelona's arrival at the next edition of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), where Rodoreda will be honored alongside other authors such as Joan Brossa, Carme Balcells, and Manuel Vázquez Mont. "It's always a good time to return to Rodoreda," emphasizes Martín. Death and Spring It is considered Rodoreda's most surreal novel and, at the same time, the most autobiographical.

Born in Granada, Leticia Martín is an art historian and musicologist. She arrived in Barcelona with Christina Scheppelmann as assistant artistic director at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and, since 2019, under the direction of Víctor García de Gomar, she has also been production director. During these years, Martín has developed her work primarily in English, but also in German and Italian; at the same time, she has been strengthening her Catalan. "I had read Rodoreda in Spanish, but now I read her in Catalan," she explains.
