Education is not only one of the main topics of public policies, subject to too constant changes that do not facilitate the functioning of schools and end up negatively influencing children's academic results. It is also a troubling problem that all parents face when they have to decide where and how to guide their sons' or daughters' education with the hope that whoever gets it right guesses it.
As is known, and Marta Buchaca reminds us in the presentation of A Slap in TimeUna bufetada a temps, there was a time when good education was basically measured by the good academic results that were sought through discipline and effort, ignoring the circumstances and emotional needs of children. Modernity turned the tables in search of an education that made the acquisition of knowledge compatible with emotional development. The confrontation of the two views can lead to well-founded reflections that highlight the merits and drawbacks of both approaches in search of a balance. And it can also lead to daily discussions, television debates, and a hilarious comedy like Buchaca's, which guarantees magnificent entertainment full of satisfied laughter, but which, obviously, will not help any parent make a decision.
The author presents the conflict between an old-fashioned grandfather (the fabulous Ramon Madaula) who has slapped his eight-year-old grandson and the modern Roc school that has decided to criminally prosecute the grandfather, seeking the support of the father and mother. Buchaca stretches the antagonistic profiles to the point of caricature, making a banner of necessary exaggeration with good modulation of information and very effective direction that only falters a little in the final stretch. As we said, Madaula's grandfather dominates the scene and the laughter, very well assisted by the rest of the performers. A sure success that portends a long life.
