Artists outraged that lockdown can be skipped to attend rallies

Actors and musicians demand the same special treatment for right to culture

BarcelonaThe announcement that the right to leave the municipality to attend political campaign acts for the for the elections has outraged the cultural sector. Both the entities that represent the actors and sectorial entities of the music industry have denounced that lockdown can be broken to maintain the right to political participation but, on the other hand, the right to access to culture, which was declared an essential good in September, has been cut. The Professional Actors and Directors Association of Catalonia (Associació d'Actors i Directors Professionals de Catalunya) has issued a statement in which they say that "Culture has been asked to "reinvent itself" to overcome the crisis of covid-19. We ask political groups to do the same for their campaign rallies".

The Professional Association of Representatives, Promoters and Managers of Catalonia (Associació Professional de Representants, Promotors i Mànagers de Catalunya) criticizes that "the Catalan culture industry continues to be mistreated and ignored". The prohibition regarding spectators from other municipalities attending a cultural event has caused an avalanche of suspensions of performances planned for the coming months. "No one can prove that the events organized by political parties are safer than cultural events", they say, and claim again that the tickets function a safeguard to break the municipal lockdown measures.
