The Mossos d'Esquadra have published on their social media the photograph of a motorcyclist who was driving on October 31st, around four in the afternoon, at over 200 km/h on the C-17 road. A radar installed at kilometer point 64.4 –near Gurb– caught the motorcyclist driving at a speed that doubles the maximum speed allowed on this stretch, which is 100 km/h.

Since the motorcyclist exceeded the maximum permitted speed for the type of road where they committed this offense by more than 80 km/h, the Mossos d'Esquadra will report them for a crime against road safety, as set out in article 379.1 of the Penal Code. The punishment for this type of offense involves prison sentences of three to six months, fines of six to twelve months, or community service of between 31 and 90 days. Furthermore, this sanction entails the withdrawal of the driving license for a period of between 1 and 4 years.

Apart from the speeding fine, the motorcyclist appears to be driving in the left lane without justification, as they are not overtaking another vehicle, a practice unfortunately very widespread on the Catalan and Spanish road network. In accordance with what is regulated by article 31 of the General Traffic Regulations, they could be sanctioned with an additional 200 euros for driving unjustifiably in the left lane without overtaking.
