The centenary and luxurious brand Bentley presents its first electric car

Barcelona107 years after its foundation, the English brand Bentley, specialized in luxury and high-performance cars, has presented its first electric car, which it has christened with the name Torcal and which has a truly impressive technical specification. The brand-new Torcal uses two electric motors with a total power of 888 hp and giant batteries of 113 kWh capacity with 800 V architecture and a range in mixed use of 600 kilometers. Furthermore, the Torcal is compatible with a charging point of up to 400 kW of power, which allows it to reach up to 80% of the battery capacity in just 20 minutes.

Bentley will offer two versions of this first electric vehicle. The base version will have a power output of 821 hp and 1,194 Nm of torque, with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds. The more powerful version will be called Torcal S and will reach a power output of 888 hp, with 1,350 Nm of torque, with acceleration from 0 to 100 in just 2.9 seconds, to which must be added an electronically limited top speed slightly higher than the standard model, as the S version reaches 260 km/h.

The first electric vehicle in Bentley's history has also posed a challenge for the engineers in Crewe, the small town south of Manchester and Liverpool that houses the stronghold of the legendary English brand. To manage all the Torcal's power safely, the engineers have implemented various safety and assistance systems, such as a new independent active suspension system, which allows each shock absorber to work according to the vehicle's traction needs at any given moment. Since this electric SUV is also a truly large car, the brand has equipped it with a rear-wheel steering system to facilitate maneuvers.

A musical sound

The element historically most valued by Bentley customers was the sound of its V8 engines (or 8-cylinder V-engines, if you prefer). With the goal of guaranteeing a sound experience worthy of Bentley, a system called Dynamic Symphony has been provided that reproduces sounds of real instruments such as drums, viola, or electric bass, which modify their intensity and volume based on speed and driving style. This system can be disconnected in case the driver or their occupants do not wish to enjoy this little concert on board the cabin.

Beyond the sound, Bentley has gone all out with this Torcal and has equipped it to the brim with technological instruments and applications, such as concave OLED screens, seats with ventilation and massage functions, or doors that open automatically via sensors and radars and close by pressing the brake pedal or fastening the passengers' seatbelts.

Bentley has not yet announced the price, although the production Torcal will hardly be below the 250,000 that the current Bentayga costs, the family SUV with a combustion engine that until now has monopolized the English brand's presence in this segment.
