Until when will Esquerra hold Rufián's pulse?

Today we will start with good news: congratulations to actress Aina Clotet, who has been awarded the Revelation Prize of the Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival. I find the will and capacity of this 44-year-old artist to be constantly working remarkable, now as the director of Viva, the story of a woman who throws herself into living intensely after overcoming cancer. Congratulations to Clotet.

And now, the harsh reality. Today we have Budgets, second part, with the signing of the agreement between the Government and Comuns, that is, between Illa and Albiach. This agreement was even more predictable than Esquerra's yes. By the way, the State says it is committed to fulfilling the agreement between the PSC and ERC for the budgets. I say "the State says" because the Bilateral State-Generalitat Commission where yesterday's agreement was sealed lasted less than an hour, and regarding the orbital train, they postponed for later the protocol that must establish its phases, calendar, and financing. Zapatero. The aftershocks of the political earthquake of the day before yesterday continue. I stand by what I told you yesterday: the Spanish government is not entirely confident, and furthermore, they fear that if Zapatero is accused of having pocketed money for a bailout, the one who granted the bailout, that is, the Spanish government, will be accused of not being vigilant enough. And another very important point: this is not just another indictment. Zapatero is the ideological support of Sánchez, the only important socialist from the past who defends him, unlike Felipe, who has withdrawn. Sánchez holds on because the PNB and Junts will not vote for Feijóo in a motion of no confidence alongside Vox; otherwise, he would already be out of Moncloa. But if the investiture bloc starts to demand early elections, Sánchez will have an even harder time.

And, in the meantime, Rufián

. Yesterday he did a double, in the morning at Congress showing his desolation over Zapatero's indictment and in the afternoon openly offering himself as the leader of the union of Spanish left-wing parties to the left of the PSOE:

Rufián: “If I can help to create a confluence, a collaboration, or a space for union to maximize electoral results between sovereignist political formations and Spanish political formations, whatever it may be, with me as the lead candidate, then let’s go forward”.

A preview: Rufián's invention would work if the PSOE got a good result and could govern, and Zapatero's news goes in the opposite direction. But let's get to the substantial: Rufián continues to challenge his party. For the moment, and in an educated and conciliatory manner, Rufián and Junqueras publicly disagree, but soon they will have to make a decision. And it won't be easy: without Esquerra, Rufián has no solid organization on which to build his project. Without Rufián, Esquerra loses a lot of electoral strength. In the worst case for Rufián, he is putting himself in a position of strength to tailor Esquerra's electoral list for the Spanish elections, but Esquerra must clarify whether or not it wants a coalition with other parties. And if it doesn't want one, as Junqueras says, it must put an end to the charade.
