Antoni Bassas' analysis: 'Nearly 5 billion euros represents 70% of the Education budget'

The news of the day is the meeting between the Spanish president, Sánchez, and the leader of Esquerra, Junqueras.
It's news because it can come out of it an agreement for new financing which could allow Catalonia to recover nearly 5 billion euros of the funds it currently transfers to the State. To understand the significance of nearly 5 billion: the Department of Education has a budget of 6.8 billion. We're talking about a lot of money, probably more than ever before (that depends on tax revenue each year), but it's not the end of our funding problems.
This morning, on Catalunya Ràdio, Junqueras implied that they have achieved respect for the principle of ordinality, meaning that Catalonia, currently third in paying and ninth in receiving, will now be third in receiving. He even awarded himself a sort of preemptive medal, saying that achieving ordinality "is very difficult and no one has ever managed it."
Today's photo at Moncloa has a symbolic effect – Junqueras is still disqualified because the Supreme Court refuses to apply the amnesty to him – and a practical one, especially for Sánchez and Isla: with agreements like this, there will continue to be a legislature, especially in Catalonia, where now Esquerra will have a reason to negotiate.
Junts has said that if this isn't a full economic agreement, they won't give their votes in Congress. Well, we're telling them now: it's not an agreement, but if the agreement meant everything, then voting against it would mean nothing. It's up to Junts to decide whether they get everything or nothing.
Why can this money be used? Well, to avoid the embarrassment that Five people who were sleeping on the streets of Barcelona have died in the last monthThe last one was the day before yesterday. Inhumanity cannot be allowed to become chronic.
Meanwhile, Greenland. Don't miss the coverage we're continuing on the ARA about American psychological warfare in Danish territoryWhy is Trump so interested in Greenland? How can Europe respond?, etc.
An existential angst is spreading across Europe and America. The Cuban economy will sink even further without Venezuelan oil (Cubans have to wait in lines for weeks to buy gasoline), and Look at this photo:
Since Maduro was captured and extradited to the United States, the Chavista regime has been scrutinizing even mobile phone messages in Venezuela to arrest anyone who celebrated his downfall. Just look at the graffiti on a wall in Caracas: "To doubt is to betray." The suffering of the people doesn't matter. Of course, some have reasons to doubt. Remember that nearly 8 million Venezuelans have left the country because they saw no future.
Finally, as life is ironic, Do you know who wants to prohibit large investors from buying single-family homes? He said it like this: "The American dream—that if you do things right you can own a home—is becoming increasingly out of reach for too many people, especially young Americans. People should be living in homes, not corporations." Well, Donald Trump said that, and Blackstone's shares, a massive global real estate holding company, plummeted on the New York Stock Exchange. We'll be following Trump's proposal closely.
Good morning.
