Delays on all Barcelona commuter rail due to an incident in the railway traffic control center
The Government suspects that it is due to the implementation of a new security 'software'
BarcelonaCatalonia has been left without trains this Tuesday, coinciding with the Pope's arrival in Catalonia. An incident at Adif's Traffic Control Center (CCT) in Barcelona has forced the interruption of traffic on practically the entire Rodalies network, as reported by the infrastructure administrator. The service stopped around 12:25 PM this Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the traffic regulation systems and forced the suspension of service on the lines operating in Barcelona. Specifically, there are disruptions on the following lines: R1, R2, R3, R4, R8, R11, R14, R15, R16, R17, RG1, RL3, RL4, RT1, RT2. According to Adif, the service is being restored "progressively" after technicians recovered the traffic regulation systems half an hour later.
The Minister of Territory and Government spokesperson, Sílvia Paneque, pointed out that the incident could be due to the implementation of new security software. In a press conference this Tuesday after the executive council, she explained that Renfe and Adif's operations centers are currently being unified, and that in this process, new Siemens security "software" is being implemented, which has generated "some problems that the company is already adjusting," and stated that the system will be much more secure once fully implemented.
"Surely when it comes out I will have information on what the cause was in this case, but unfortunately the implementation of this new system is giving us some problems," she said at the press conference, which coincided with the time of the incident and the start of service recovery. Paneque warned that there will be some delays in train traffic while the incident is being resolved. "Work is being done to prevent these incidents from happening again," she assured.
However, it is possible that delays will accumulate throughout the day in a domino effect, as has happened on previous occasions. When there is a system failure, the entire railway operation is altered in a chain. The incident coincided with the arrival of Leo XIV in Barcelona, an event for which Renfe had designed a reinforcement plan on the Rodalies lines with 35% more capacity.
