Emergency teams have been searching since Wednesday night for a minor under sixteen years old who disappeared at sea in Roses, in Alt Empordà, on a jet ski. They are searching by land, sea, and air in an operation that includes the Bombers de la Generalitat, the Mossos d'Esquadra, Agents Rurals, Salvament Marítim, the Red Cross, and the Guardia Civil, which is in charge of the investigation.

A total of 1,317 people have died between January and May 2026 attempting to reach Spain by sea and land, according to the latest report from the NGO Caminando Fronteras. Among the victims are 142 women and 129 children, and up to 26 different nationalities, on migratory routes that the entity once again describes as "extremely lethal" and which are marked by the lack of effective rescue at various points along the route.
