Specifically, the Council of Ministers will approve the public positions for 2026, as announced yesterday, Monday, by the Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function, Óscar López. The call, however, will arrive without the endorsement of the majority unions in the public service, which have denounced the lack of negotiation. In 2025, the government approved 36,588 public positions in the State, a call slightly lower than that of 2024, which was historic with the offer of 40,146 positions. which was historic with the offer of 40,146 positions. In statements to TVE, López assured that this year's call will be "an example of how to transform jobs in public administration, have experts in artificial intelligence (AI) and at the same time not destroy jobs." However, López also indicated that "it makes no sense to continue growing eternally."
