Three out of every four euros of the record spending planned in the 2026 Budgets are allocated to social policies, and the Department of Social Rights and Inclusion is one of the main beneficiaries of the departmental distribution planned in the accounts. The overall budget of the departments grows to 40,399 million euros, 24.9% more than in 2023 and, in this context, the Department of Social Rights and Inclusion will have 4,248 million euros, equivalent to 10.5% of the total budget. The increase in resources for the department will be 28% compared to the last approved accounts.

The Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya has a budget of 13,840 million euros in 2026, representing 34.3% of the Generalitat's total budget.

The increase in the 2026 Budgets, with a record expenditure of 49.162 billion euros, represents a necessary injection of resources to strengthen one of the Government's priority areas: education. The Department of Education and Vocational Training is one of the main beneficiaries of the new accounts, with an allocation of 8.356 billion euros, 24.5% more than in 2023, representing 20.7% of the Generalitat's total expenditure.

On July 2nd, Parliament definitively approved the Generalitat of Catalonia budget for 2026, which represents a historic increase compared to the last approved accounts, corresponding to 2023. This year, 49,162 million euros are allocated to improving the lives of Catalans, meaning 9,126 million euros more than in the budgets approved three years ago, which represents an increase of 22.8%.

The Catalan government will have budgets. It was about time. The last ones were approved in 2023. We cannot get used to considering it normal to govern without updated accounts. It is not acceptable that budgets are increasingly dragged from legislature to legislature due to the inability to reach agreements. Politics is precisely that: pact. A sense of responsibility beyond expressing legitimate differences.

524 million euros: this is the Culture budget for 2026, detailed this Wednesday by the Minister of Culture, Sònia Hernández Almodóvar. Compared to the budgets presented by Pere Aragonès's government in 2024, which were rejected by the Comuns party, the increase for Culture and Language is 43 million euros. Despite this considerable increase within a total budget of 49.162 billion euros, Culture (and Language) is still far from the coveted 2% to which both the Aragonès and Salvador Illa governments had committed. The 609 million represents 1.7%, two tenths more than in 2023. This 1.7% is not in relation to the total 49,162 million, but rather to 36,070 million, which, according to the Department of Culture, is the figure remaining after excluding "final and financial funds" (79 million). The budgets defended by Councilor Hernández Almodóvar include actions already announced such as the MNAC expansion project (60 million), the reconversion of the Old Canons' Phonetic Workshop of Barcelona's Rambla in a digital culture center (10.4 million), the new House of Letters in the Palau Requesens in Barcelona (7 million), the expansion of the Macba (5 million), the renovation of the Library of Catalonia (5 million), the expansion of the Filmoteca's conservation space in Terrassa (3.4 million), and the renovation of the Mercat de les Flors (1.7 million), among others. One of the major new developments is a 75 million euro investment to protect museum collections: a 35,000 m² space.² in a location yet to be determined "in the center of the country." It will house the "joint national reserves" of museums, including the Museum of Natural Sciences, the MNAC (National Art Museum of Catalonia), and the MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona).
