Atresmedia's strangest commercials

https://en.ara.cat/media/atresmedia-s-strangest-commercials_129_5696839.html

For weeks now, both Antena 3 and La Sexta have been abruptly inserting advertising breaks that disrupt television content. These are not the usual ad breaks, where presenters hand over to commercials. Nor are they interruptions with a notice of a divider separating two blocks of a program. Nor the classic transition between two different broadcasts. It is a twenty-second advertisement that violently intrudes upon whatever event is being broadcast at that moment, crushing its content. Last week, amidst the tense and sensationalist news about Noelia Castillo's euthanasia request during the broadcast of Y ahora Sonsoles and Más vale tarde, there were several interruptions of this nature. If a report was being aired, a panel discussion was taking place, or a live connection was being made, those twenty seconds of advertising trampled over the live feed. This Wednesday, on Espejo público, Lorena García was interviewing Iñaki Anasagasti in a live connection. She was asking him about the photographs of ETA prisoners that had appeared in a popular race and, to conclude the conversation, she took the opportunity to ask him what he thought of the lehendakari's request to bring the Guernica to the Guggenheim in Bilbao for a few months as a form of symbolic reparation. Just at that moment, a loud twenty-second advertisement suddenly appeared, drowning out his words. When the violent and annoying advertising cut ended, Anasagasti was already finishing his sentence. We were left without his response. These are advertising inserts that are made outside the program's broadcast signal. They inject them directly into DTT. If you retrieve the broadcast on Atresmedia's digital platform or through Movistar+'s grid, that advertising cut does not appear. It is only for viewers watching DTT. Obviously, these inserts do not save you from the usual advertising. The formula could violate the general audiovisual communication law of 2022 because it does not respect the program's integrity – advertising cannot cut off responses, sentences, scenes, or any narrative continuity–. Furthermore, this practice could be used as a form of veiled censorship, disrupting television moments at convenience. The method is part of an increasingly widespread trend of disregard for viewers. It is a way of transforming the model: the audience ceases to be the recipient of the content and becomes a mere reception device for advertising impacts. The television experience is increasingly fragmented and poorly curated. Given the ease with which certain commercial practices are adopted, the method could end up invading television grids. From all for the audience to all for the money.

The Catalan presenter is already preparing Cara al Show, his new humor and entertainment program, which will air on La Sexta after Easter. After the news and his appearance on El hormiguero, this Monday a double interview with Jordi Évole was broadcast on the program Lo de Évole. One of the most notable moments of the interview was when Évole surprised Giró with a live call to the central government president, Pedro Sánchez. The three of them chatted for more than eight minutes, and Giró did not miss the opportunity to challenge Sánchez to appear on his new program.

But why are they interviewing this girl?

https://en.ara.cat/media/but-why-are-they-interviewing-this-girl_129_5666977.html

On Monday, current affairs programs reacted to the war between the United States, Israel, and Iran. In situations of crisis and gravity, the informational miseries are most evident. One of the recurring situations consisted of interviewing Spaniards trapped in the Persian Gulf. On Espejo público, they made a certain Ofelia Hentschel, a former contestant on MasterChef, famous. Over the weekend, she had announced on social media that she could not return to Spain from Dubai. With a victimistic attitude, she ranted and groaned as if she were the only person in her situation and even suggested that Spanish citizens should not pay taxes because they were useless. It is unnecessary to list the absurdities she uttered, but the recordings were a grotesque spectacle. A repertoire of unprecedented moods, full of demagoguery and with a worrying lack of maturity. The phenomenon demonstrates how television, in symbiosis with social networks, has ended up normalizing forms of exhibitionism based on narcissism. After showing a selection of Ofelia's stellar moments, Susanna Griso interviewed her for fifteen minutes and even had her participate in the discussion to attack Pedro Sánchez. The presenter showed her the videos the president had posted on social media riding a bicycle so that the influencer would criticize him. In the afternoon, she was interviewed on Y ahora Sonsoles,on Antena 3; El tiempo justo, on Telecinco, and Todo es mentira, on Cuatro. Both Sonsoles Ónega and Joaquín Prat and Risto Mejide were also very interested in delving into her absurdities and her opinion on paying taxes. After all, these are programs that feed on sensationalism and turn anecdotes into categories. They claim to be doing journalism, but they are dedicated to variety shows. They all put on faces of gravity and contrition in the face of the escalating conflict, but they reveled in the psychodrama of the former MasterChef contestant. Posing as daring interviewers, they gave her moral lessons about the duty to pay taxes. In the height of incoherence, on Más vale tarde, on La Sexta, they went even further. Iñaki López and Cristina Pardo made faces about the case and dedicated a report to the girl's farce. The presenters wanted to demonstrate their high moral standing by belittling Ofelia's discourse and asked the experts at the table to join in. Even the singer Ramoncín chimed in. “Let's see if we can talk to Ofelia and understand this change of opinion better”, the presenters said ironically after seeing that the influencer was already saying she felt “supported by Spain”. They later lamented not being able to establish a live connection with her. What is perplexing is why on earth they wanted to interview this girl, who had been spouting nonsense for twenty-four hours. The television presenters' eagerness to shock us and achieve virality does nothing but fill television with the kings of foolishness.

The Catalan broadcaster joins the Atresmedia group and will be part of the channel with a television project set to premiere in 2026. Giró arrives with a solid profile thanks to his career, which combines intelligent humor, social analysis, entertainment, and LGBTQ+ advocacy. His new network has not revealed the premiere date or the format of his new show, although it has been suggested that it will continue to be based on a combination of interviews with celebrities and humor.
