Environmental taxes collected in Spain increased by 8.9% in 2024, reaching a total of €26.83 billion, according to data published Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE). These taxes now account for 7% of total taxes collected in the Spanish economy, one-tenth of a percentage point higher than the previous year. Of all environmental taxes, 40% – €10.83 billion – was paid by households, according to INE data. This figure is 9% higher than the previous year. By type, households paid 72.4% of transport taxes and 39.7% of energy taxes.
