Iberdrola, Endesa, and Naturgy, the three companies that own the Almaraz nuclear power plant in Cáceres, have agreed to formally request the Spanish government to extend the plant's operating license until 2030. Following a meeting held this Thursday, the plant's board of owners approved the extension, according to sources familiar with the meeting, a fact later confirmed by the power companies themselves. The Spanish government has already received the request, as confirmed by sources at the Ministry for Ecological Transition. These same sources indicated that the Ministry will forward the request to the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) so that, as the regulatory body, it can issue its mandatory report.

Iberdrola will close the year with record profits, the company announced on Tuesday, coinciding with the presentation of its results for the first nine months of the year (January through September). Although the country's leading electricity company recorded a net profit of €5.307 billion between January and September, which represents a 3% decrease compared to the first nine months of 2024 (taking into account divestments and deductions), and expects for the whole year to exceed 6.6 billion euros in adjusted net profit, as reported by the company to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), while the net result will stand at 6.2 billion euros (389 million euros not taken into account).

Endesa, Iberdrola, and Naturgy have sent a letter to the Ministry for Ecological Transition expressing their "willingness" to extend the useful life of the Almaraz nuclear power plant in Extremadura, which is scheduled to close in 2027, as explained by sources from this department. The ministry, headed by Sara Aagesen, explains that this Friday they received a letter from the three owners of Almaraz, in which they "exclusively" convey their "willingness" to extend the closure schedule. The same sources explain that "no specific action is being notified or anticipated."
