According to the Prosecutor's Office, at least one of the two suspects was arrested on Saturday at Charles de Gaulle Airport as he attempted to board a flight to Algeria. The other suspect was arrested in the Seine-Saint-Denis department, north of Paris. Both men, who are in police custody, have prior records for robbery. Police accuse them of "organized robbery" and "criminal association." The police are still searching for the other two men involved in the robbery. According to French police, around 100 people are involved in the robbery investigation.

Police are still searching for clues to try to identify and arrest the thieves and understand why the four men were able to enter and leave with impunity with jewels from the French Treasury of "incalculable heritage value." How is such a robbery possible in daylight, with visitors inside, in one of the world's largest museums? Official information is distributed in dribs and drabs, but all indications point to serious security shortcomings, denounced not only by unions but also by the French Court of Auditors.

This Sunday morning, just over half an hour after its doors opened, the most visited and famous museum in the world, the Louvre, was evacuated. All tourists had to quickly leave the halls because masked thieves had entered the Apollo Gallery. In a lightning-fast raid, they stole nine pieces—one of which they lost along the way—from the collection of jewels that form part of the French treasury and were worn by kings and members of the Bonaparte dynasty. The museum remained closed all Sunday, in part to prevent the destruction of evidence and facilitate the investigation. On their website The robbery occurred between 9:30 and 9:40 a.m. French Culture Minister Rachida Dati announced on social media that an investigation had been opened and that there were no victims or injuries.
