One day after his closed-door meeting with Donald TrumpVenezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado held a press conference this Friday afternoon in Washington. At the event, the anti-Chavista leader asserted that she will return to Venezuela "as soon as possible" and reiterated her alignment with the White House: "Venezuela will be free with the support of the United States," she stated. It was also learned this Friday that CIA Director John Ratcliffe met with Venezuelan interim president Delcy Rodríguez in Caracas on Thursday.

Reality is always changing, but the speed at which it's changing these days is impressive. France, Germany, Norway, and Sweden are sending soldiers to Greenland. And Denmark, of course. Spain says it's considering it. These are small contingents that will carry out "reconnaissance" work, in a clear symbolic message to Donald Trump: this is Danish sovereign territory, it's European Union territory, and we don't accept threats. Trump must be laughing, but these countries have done the only thing they can do, which is not to look the other way.

Trump administration Secretary of State Marco Rubio was the mastermind behind the military operation dubbed Absolute Resolve, which culminated in the arrest of Nicolás Maduro, accused of drug trafficking, early Saturday morning. Both the military operation and Maduro's arrest were carried out without any judicial or political warrant and are therefore criminal acts, executed outside the bounds of legality. Approximately forty people, both civilians and military personnel, died. Rubio is now the strongman at the head of Venezuela's provisional (mis)government, which no one knows will lead to new elections or resolve itself with the establishment of a board of directors handpicked by the US government and those members of Maduro's government who are willing to comply, with Vice President Delcy Rodríguez at the helm. Marco Rubio hates Maduro's Chavista dictatorship in Venezuela, but he adores Nayib Bukele's neoliberal dictatorship in El Salvador, who recently mocked Maduro's downfall on social media.

On Friday morning, half the world breathed a sigh, not only because Donald Trump hadn't won his coveted Nobel Peace Prize, but also because the winner was close to him, and therefore his potential anger was partly appeased. In fact, María Corina Machado, being cautious, called him to tell him that he deserved it more than her and that she dedicated it to him. Trump boasts of having stopped eight conflicts, which isn't entirely true, and on Monday he will be in Jerusalem and also in Sharm al-Sheikh, the Egyptian resort where the peace agreement will be signed, to receive all the tributes he so desires. However, the question is whether this will be enough to satisfy his ego and, if not, what he will do. For now, his unpredictability continues in all areas, and the unknowns remain.
